An Inception Meeting of the EVCR Project was held in Hatiya, Noakhali, with the aim of strengthening disaster preparedness and resilience among cyclone-prone and vulnerable communities.

Hatiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mr Russell Iqbal attended the meeting as the Chief Guest.
The meeting was addressed by Anisur Rahman, Upazila Relief and Disaster Management Officer; Abdul Jabbar, Upazila Education Officer; Salauddin Sikder, Upazila Social Services Officer, along with officials from other relevant government departments. Representatives from the project implementing organisations, Nazrul Smriti Sangsad (NSS) and Participatory Research & Action Network- PRAAN, also participated and spoke at the meeting.
Participants were informed that a range of disaster preparedness and resilience-building activities will be implemented in Char King Union and Char Ishwar Union under the project.
Key activities include:
🔹 Minor repair of six cyclone shelters three in Char Ishwar Union and three in Char King Union
🔹 Repair and improvement of WASH and sanitation facilities
🔹 Installation of solar systems at cyclone shelters
🔹 Repair of access roads connected to four cyclone shelters
🔹 Reorganization of youth volunteer groups
🔹 Disaster preparedness training for volunteers
🔹 Installation of billboards to strengthen the dissemination of cyclone early warning messages at the local level
Speakers emphasized that early preparedness is essential to protecting the lives, assets, and livelihoods of vulnerable communities in cyclone-prone Hatiya. They highlighted that coordinated efforts among the local administration, government departments, communities, and development organizations can play a vital role in reducing disaster-related losses and strengthening local resilience.
With support from Start Fund Bangladesh, the project is being implemented by Nazrul Smriti Sangsad (NSS) and Participatory Research & Action Network- PRAAN.
Relevant stakeholders expressed their commitment to providing the necessary cooperation and coordination for the successful implementation of the project activities.
Prepared today, safer and more resilient coastal communities tomorrow.
