A Story of Violence Transformed by Confidence – 2

River erosion took away her home, security, and stability. Left with nowhere to go, a woman found shelter through the government’s Asrayan Prokalpa and began a new struggle for survival with her three daughters.

Life in the new settlement was not easy. Severe poverty made it difficult for her to provide food, education, and basic care for her children. At the same time, she faced continuous physical and mental violence from her husband, who did not contribute to the family and subjected her to abuse. Eventually, he abandoned her, leaving her in extreme hardship and despair.

At a time when she had almost lost hope, support came through a local Women-Led Community Center (WLCC). There, she shared her struggles and received emotional support, guidance, and skills-based training. Through training in making handicraft products, especially bamboo items, she found a new path toward income and independence.

Today, she earns with dignity by making and selling bamboo products from her home. Her children are now able to eat better, dress better, and live in a safer and more peaceful environment. Her story is a powerful example of how confidence, skills, and community-based support can help women overcome violence, poverty, and vulnerability.

This story has been documented by the Participatory Research Action Network (PRAAN) under the title “A Story of Violence Transformed by Confidence – 2.” It is part of the project “Enhancing Climate Resilience for Women and Girls by Strengthening Coping, Adaptive, and Transformative Capacities to Address Climate-Induced GBV Risks and Ensure Access to Multi-Sectoral GBV Response Services in High-Risk Disaster-Prone Districts of Bangladesh.”

The initiative is being implemented with support from ActionAid and UNFPA, with financial assistance from Japan.

এটি দুর্যোগপ্রবণ এলাকায় নারী ও কিশোরীদের জলবায়ুগত ঝুঁকি এবং জেন্ডারভিত্তিক সহিংসতা মোকাবেলায় সক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধির বৃহত্তর প্রকল্প “Enhancing Climate Resilience for Women and Girls by Strengthening Coping, Adaptive, and Transformative Capacities to Address Climate-Induced GBV Risks and Ensure Access to Multi-Sectoral GBV Response Services in High-Risk Disaster-Prone Districts of Bangladesh”-এর একটি অংশ।
