Partnership for Achieving National Goals: Saplings Distributed Across Four Upazilas of Noakhali!

In a significant move toward environmental sustainability and climate resilience, a comprehensive sapling distribution initiative was recently completed across four upazilas of Noakhali district. This local effort stands as a direct contribution to Bangladesh’s larger national vision for ecological restoration and climate change adaptation.

Aligning with the National Green Vision

The Government of Bangladesh has embarked on a massive nationwide initiative to plant 250 million trees over the next five years to safeguard the environment and combat the adverse impacts of global climate change.

As the initial phase of this monumental campaign, 15 million saplings are actively being planted across 149 upazilas throughout the country. Aligning directly with these national targets, a localized sapling distribution program was successfully rolled out in Noakhali through a joint partnership between:

  • Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD)
  • Participatory Research & Action Network-PRAAN

This collaboration reflects the power of joint initiatives in translating high-level national environmental policies into tangible, grassroots action.

Building Local Green Belts & Climate Resilience

Coastal and vulnerable regions like Noakhali face ongoing climate risks, making local ecological interventions essential. To address these vulnerabilities and foster the growth of local green belts, a total of 250 saplings were distributed directly to local community members.

To ensure long-term ecological balance and community utility, the selection included a diverse mix of:

  • Fruit-bearing varieties (promoting local nutrition and food security)
  • Timber species (supporting long-term ecological and economic value)
  • Medicinal plants (preserving traditional health resources and biodiversity)

Phased Distribution Schedule

The saplings were systematically distributed across four key upazilas in Noakhali to maximize reach and community participation:

  • Noakhali Sadar: 22 September
  • Sonaimuri: 23 September
  • Begumganj: 24 September
  • Subarnachar: 26 September

Social Inclusion for a Sustainable Tomorrow

Beyond environmental conservation, the primary driving force behind this initiative is enhancing the social inclusion of marginalized communities. True sustainability is achieved when local residents are directly empowered to become stewards of their natural surroundings.

By engaging communities in tree planting, the program aims to:

  1. Maintain local environmental and ecological balance.
  2. Foster an eco-friendly, climate-conscious society.
  3. Secure a greener, healthier, and more sustainable world for future generations.

A Call to Action

Planting a tree is only the first step—ensuring its survival through continuous care is what creates lasting impact.

Let us all take responsibility to plant saplings, protect our green spaces, and ensure their regular care for a sustainable future.
