Budget Olympiad 2019 : Noakhali Regional Round held in Noakhali Science and Technology University

With the aim toward engaging youth to support initiatives for popularizing budget literacy, to build up young advocates all over the country and to ensure accountability of budgeting process, Regional competition round of Budget Olympiad 2019- Noakhali Region was held 12 pm, October 24th today at Muktijoddha Mohammad Idris Auditorium in Noakhali Science and Technology University, Noakhali.

Jointly organized by Democratic Budget Movement, Participatory Research Action Network- PRAN and Royal Economics Club (REC) of NSTU Department of Economics and ActionAid Bangladesh, approximately 600 students from different educational institutes of Noakhali, Feni, Lakhmipur, Hatiya participated in this regional Olympiad.

Led by Mr. Mohammad Mokhammel Karim Towfik- Chairman, Department of Economics, NSTU, the Treasurer of the University Professor Dr. Mohammod Faruk Uddin was the chief guest in this program. Ms. Sonia Afrin Allie- Assistant Professor Department of Economics, National Coordinator of Budget Olympiad Mr. Nurul Alam Masud, Mr. Sikander Ali Mina- Joint Secretary of Democratic Budget Movement were other than that of presented there. Mr, Mohiuddin Khondker- President of Royal Economics Club kept his opening remarks in this program moderated by Mr. Satyajit Chakraborty, student of the Economics Department.

In his speech as chief guest, Dr. Mohammad Farukh Uddin said, such initiative to accelerate skills of youth about national budget and planning is commendable. Youth will contribute to democratizing national budget and ensuring peopleโ€™s participation through this event. Through ethical use of personal income and expenditure, moral reflection on National level budget is possible. It is important to grow and nurture personal values to prevent all forms of corruption from this country and thus ensure proper use of budget.

Nurul Alam Masud, National Coordinator of Budget Olympiad rendered his speech emphasizing the necessity to come free of the idea that budget is issue of economists. This is really important for all the young people to think and discuss national budgetary issues and its planning process. The speakers urged the youth to be aware of different national policies, discussion and debate of budget and building themselves up as ideal citizen of this country.

Medals and certificates were distributed among the winners of the competition at the end of the ceremony. These twenty winners will participate with other regional winners from different parts of the country in the Grand Finale going to be held in next month.
