Youth Gathering on ‘No Gas No Hydrogen: Finance on Renewables’

At the G-20 summit in India, it was announced with a mission to expand coalition efforts in combating climate change and the associated natural disasters. The summit’s central mission is to expand the collaborative efforts in addressing the pressing issues of climate change and the associated natural disasters. Its primary objectives include enhancing the reliance of G-20 member states on environmentally friendly energy sources and offering essential support for the establishment of cost-effective eco-friendly power plants.

In conjunction with the G-20 summit, a significant event was organized in Noakhali on September 9, 2023. This event was a collaborative effort by several organizations, including PRAAN (Participatory Research & Action Network), CLEAN (Coastal Livelihood and Environmental Action Network), GrowthWatch, and BWGED. The event, known as the Youth Gathering, brought together passionate young activists who voiced their concerns and aspirations.

During this gathering, these young activists called for an immediate divestment from fossil fuels, encompassing gas, coal, and oil. They also advocated for substantial investments in renewable energy solutions tailored specifically for Bangladesh. In addition, they emphasized the need for a reevaluation of poverty-alleviation policies and underscored the importance of capacity-building within the energy sector. Furthermore, they highlighted the urgent need for funding to support initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions.

It is our hope that the commitment of G-20 leaders to implement their declarations on climate action and renewable energy remains resolute, contributing to a broader global effort to combat climate change and safeguard the environment for future generations.
