Fact Finding Report | Farmer Commits Suicide Following Heavy Crop Loss and Debt Burden in Bangladesh 2025

Farmers who feed the nation are being driven to death by unfair prices, predatory moneylenders, fake seeds, crushing debt, and the absence of state protection. These are not personal tragedies—they are systemic injustices that violate the Right to Life, Right to Food, and Human Dignity.
Bangladesh Food Security Network – KHANI Fact finding mission exposes how systemic failures—crushing debt, crop failure, fake seeds, predatory lenders, exploitative middlemen, and the absence of fair prices or storage—pushed farmers like Saiful Sheikh and Mir Ruhul Amin to take their own lives. These are not isolated tragedies: they’re violations of the rights to life, food, dignity, and protection. When farmers feed the nation yet are deprived of fair treatment, we must call it what it is: a national human rights emergency.
No farmer should have to choose between debt and death. Protecting farmers is protecting Bangladesh’s future.
